The Third Key
Adult stepsisters Zazie Skymm and Luna Bunny have always had a complicated relationship. They constantly provoke each other, compete for attention, and become irrationally jealous whenever the other gets close to someone. Neither has ever admitted why. After years apart, they spend one night together in their old family home before it is emptied. Almost immediately, their old rivalry returns. But something else has changed.
On the living-room table, Zazie discovers a photograph of Luna in the bedroom. The photograph appears to have been taken that night. Luna insists Zazie took it. Zazie insists she didn’t. More photographs begin appearing around the house, each one showing moments that haven’t happened yet. As their fear grows, their jealousy finally explodes into an emotional confrontation. Zazie admits that she never hated the people Luna dated. She hated watching Luna choose anyone except her.
Luna reveals she has felt exactly the same way. But before either woman can decide what that means, they discover the final photograph. It shows them standing outside the locked bedroom. On the back: ‘DON’T OPEN IT AGAIN.’ There is only one problem. Neither woman remembers ever opening that room before.
