Interview with Alphonso Layz

Who is he ? – Interview with Alphonso Layz

1. Introduce yourself! Who is Alphonso Layz?

Alphonso Layz is the owner of Pornbread Incorporated, a male performer, 2021 AVN Award Winner, multi-XBiz nominated, multi-Urban X nominated, creator of many things—music, entertainment. This guy is just different, you know.

2. How did you come up with your stage name?

Actually, my stage name, Alphonso Layz, comes from me being from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Back in the day, Happy Days, I was young. Happy Days was around and everybody used to love the Fonzo. He was so slick, so clean. I wanted to put a twist on that, so it was Alphonso. Then, Layz is because, you know, I make sure the women are satisfied, but it’s also from the actual chips. You remember Lays chips, right? The commercial used to say you can’t have just one. So, I changed the S to a Z, and I believe you can’t have just one time. You gotta have two.

3. What is your age?

Age is unknown. Most performers, as professionals, don’t disclose our age. We let the media do that for us, so I let them rock with it that way. I don’t care too much for it.

4. What is your moon sign?

I’m an Aquarius, a proud Aquarius. From what I’m hearing, we’re water bearers, but now they’re changing the script and saying we’re an air sign. So, if I’m a water bender and an air bender, doesn’t that mean I have all elements at one time? You know what I’m saying? Earth and fire.

5. Why did you decide to get into the adult industry?

Oh, I was shooting porn in high school. It was just a little different because I had the old camcorder with a small tape, and I was putting that joint in the shoebox when I was knocking off cheerleaders, band chicks, and older chicks. I was wild back in the day because I played for the basketball team, and, you know, I was a rapper back then. You put the beat on the table, I was getting to work, so I was getting a good workout at home too.

6. How long have you been shooting now?

If I’ve been shooting since I was 17, it’s been a long time. You know, it’s been a long time.

7. What are your goals for the next phase of your career?

The goals for the next phase of this career, as far as me being an adult entertainer, are to continue to bring light to artistry. It’s not always about the fast stuff. I like the cinematic part of our industry—the more charismatic, the more loving, the more sensual. That’s where I see it, you know, because there are a million fans that like gonzo, but there are also fans that want a storyline. They want to engage with not just the creator but understand the story and how we got here.

8. Before porn, did you go to school, college or have a regular job?

Before porn, I was a music artist. I signed to Universal back in 1999. I was on the road doing nightclubs while they were doing the Up in Smoke Tour. Then things went sideways, and I ended up back home. For the next two years, I worked on my first album called The Number One Contender. It was with Uncle Poo Records, which is crazy because they were a blunt roller company at the time. They built their little thing, and they wanted entertainers. We had a feature in XXL Magazine that year—the one with DMX on the cover, with the red shirt and chain. We were on page 95. I felt like we had an opportunity there, but things changed really fast. About a year and a half later, I was joining the military.

9. You’ve got a great look—do you have a workout routine?

I’m in the gym every day. I have this regimen called Pro-Fit because to be a professional, you have to be fit. You have to put the work in because some of those scenes, man, they take a lot from you. If you don’t give it all back to yourself, it takes more. To be able to perform two, three, four, or five scenes in a day, you have to be physically fit. Your breathing has to be intact. You’ve got to put the right nutrients in your body to perform as a professional.

10. What’s your favorite sex toy—or do you even use one?

Favorite sex toy? I’d say it’s a cock ring that vibrates. I used it maybe in two scenes. It was great, but it was for her, not for me. It was fun for her, not so much for me. I’m not really big on sex toys. I like to do the work.

11. What makes you feel sexy?

The appreciation on set—that’s what gives me even more of the sexy swag. I already feel like, you know, with my modeling career that comes with it, right? But the chemistry on set with another female talent who has that charisma, when the scene is sensual and hot, that’s what makes me feel really sexy.

12. What’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out?

Don’t just jump in head first. Get some type of consultation. Find a good mentor. Not a lot of male performers are willing to help another male performer, but there are some, like myself, who offer consultations. We have to charge a fee to get something back because we don’t want you to jump in, use our name as a reference, and blow it. So, get some consultations, pay a little money for them, get an understanding of how things should be done professionally, and learn about testing and all the tactics that can help your career move forward.

13. Were there any memorable moments from set that you can share with us?

Oh my god, man, so crazy. There’s a lot. I’ll say this: some female performers don’t even know they’re squirters until you make them squirt. There was one female performer who, to this day, says, “I don’t know how you pulled it off, but you fucking did it.” I had to send her the clip in slow motion so she could see that when I was hitting it from the back and pulled back, it was like a full splash line hitting the end of the bed and the floor. She didn’t want to admit it because some people get embarrassed, but I slowed it down for her so she could see it in real time. She was like, “Yo, I know I did, but I didn’t want nobody else to know.” I was like, “It’s cool, I got you.” But yeah, making a woman squirt or have a full, aggressive orgasm is one of those things for me. That’s the kick. You gotta be able to do that as a performer because we do this a lot, and to touch a person in that way is a different connection and vibe for the scene.

14. As a performer, what challenges have you overcome to reach this point in your career?

My rookie year, man, my rookie year was tough. Everybody asks me that, and they go, “What was so different about your rookie year?” I had to literally start from the bottom up—no shot at anybody, listen to me when I say no shot at anybody. When I first got into the industry, there was a certain fetish that wasn’t as popular as it is now. To perform with a different style of performer, you had to go through this type first. You can’t have the full cake without eating the dinner first, and sometimes the dinner ain’t what you want. But like Mama said, you ain’t leaving this table until you finish this plate. So, you have to understand what comes with it. My rookie year was tough, but I learned how to manage the mental and visual concepts to make myself a better performer.

15. What are your favorite scenes with you that you could recommend?

Oh man, that’s putting me on the spot. Favorite scenes? From all the years, 70s Black Passion, or what they called For the Cause—that scene is crazy. My Dorm Room Chronicle series that starts with the James Star, the Pussy Fairy scene with Misty Stone, man, it’s so many. I have a scene with Jenna Foxx that was pretty dope too. My scene with Ebony Mystic Goddess was crazy, and the one with September Reign was nuts. I got some heavy hitters—Brianna Moore, Thick Ass Daphne, Heavenly XP. I got some great work out there.

16. Who are some of your favorite performers and directors?

For directors, I’d say one of my favorites is Unique Leo because she’s been with me the longest. Not only is she a great director with the camera, but she’s also the co-owner of Pornbread Incorporated, which is pretty dope. At one point, we were traveling, knocking out scenes back-to-back, and she’d direct while I’d knock them down piece by piece. Snapshot Media Entertainment, Open Legs Entertainment, Twisted Bliss—they shot some of my bigger scenes. I got a lot of great ones.

17. Do you have a count of how many people you were with before porn?

No, I can’t even lie to you, I couldn’t count. I was busy. I was an athlete, played freshman ball, JV, then Varsity, and we were in summer leagues. I was a busy boy with some popularity. Things move differently when you’re 16, 17, 18, and got your own car while everybody else during that time didn’t have their own cars. You know, it’s a little different because you can drive on and off to get to somebody’s house and leave. You know what I mean?

18. Is there anyone out there that you would like to work with?

That’s hard to name. Our industry is forever changing—it doesn’t stay the same. One person can win seven AVN awards one year, and the next year they’re gone. Pinpointing one performer would be an injustice to other female performers who put in a lot of work, and the recognition is there. It’s not about clout; it’s about performance for me, not clout chasing. I couldn’t give you a direct name off the top of my head, but I will say Raven Thicks is getting close, man. I’d love an opportunity to work with her.

19. Do you have any fantasies you would like to do in front of camera?

I’ve pretty much completed those tasks. I’ve checked a lot of things off the box. The only thing I haven’t done yet is an 8-on-1, a reverse gangbang—eight girls, one guy. Shit, it would be a party.

20. What is the best thing about doing porn?

The best thing is the performers who understand this is a business, and you can build it, and they will cum—literally. Pants down at the computer screen, in the airport bathroom, on their phone at work in the bathroom, they will cum.
